VANOMA is pleased to announce the addition of two new board members, Crystal Miller and Kim Thompson Smith! Both ladies hold pivotal roles in the Virginia design community, and have graciously accepted to take on the role of Director At-Large to fill the seats of recent departures from the VANOMA board – Ken Martin (NC) and Ramon Turner (PA), who have both recently relocated out of state.
Celebrating Our New Board Members
Crystal Miller, RA graduated from The University of Virginia in 2001 with a Bachelor's of Science in Architecture, and completed a Master's of Architecture from The New School of Architecture (San Diego, CA) in 2012. Currently, Crystal is the Department Chair for the Architectural Engineering Department at Brightpoint Community College (formally John Tyler). She was also a driving force behind the planning and implementation of the recent 2022 VANOMA Project Pipeline Summer Camp, held virtually on July 18 - 22. Learn more about Crystal
Kim Thompson Smith, AIA, NOMA is a Principal and Owner of VMDO in Charlottesville, Virginia. Her elevation to principal in 2010 made Kim the first female architect / principal in the firm’s almost 40-year history. In addition to this achievement, Kim founded Central VA Women in Design in 2009, served as a director on the Virginia Society AIA Board from 2009 – 2010, and was an AIA Virginia Emerging Leaders in Architecture Program Committee member for four years, from 2009-2013.
